|Bacteria need water and a food source to survive. Your skin has two types of sweat glands: eccrine glands and apocrine glands. While sweat from eccrine glands can result in odor, apocrine glands are more highly linked to odor problems. |
Sweat from eccrine glands is composed of mostly salt and water, however, sweat from apocrine contains a fatty substance which is a perfect food source for odor causing bacteria. Apocrine glands are found in high concentrations in the underarms and genital area as well.
